Handing the company to someone else
Every Roadmap Flow company has exactly one owner. Transferring ownership is a single deliberate action, and it is the only way to change who holds it.
Use this when
- You are leaving the company or changing role.
- The person who ran the original checkout is not the person who should be administering it.
- You need somebody else to be able to hand it on in future — only the owner can do that.
- Somebody must be suspended, removed or unlicensed, and Roadmap Flow refuses because they are the owner.
What you need before starting
- To be the current owner. Nobody else can transfer ownership, including company admins.
- The new owner must already be an active company member. Someone with a pending invitation does not qualify — get them in first.
- A conversation with them. This is not reversible by you afterwards.
Step-by-step flow
- If the new owner is not yet a member, invite them from People and wait until they have accepted.
- Open Administrators.
- Click Transfer ownership on the owner row.
- Choose the new owner from the list of active members.
- Tick the confirmation box. The transfer will not proceed without it.
- Click Transfer ownership.
What happens at that moment:
- The new owner becomes
company_owner. - You become
company_admin— you are demoted, not dropped, so you keep managing people until somebody changes that. - The new owner is given a licensed seat if they did not have one. If the pool is full, the seat you release covers it.
- One audit event records the change, with both names.
What good looks like
- The Administrators page shows the new owner, and shows you under Company admins.
- The new owner can open Seats and billing, which you can no longer do unless you are also a billing admin — the owner role carried that authority, and company admin does not.
- The audit log has a
Company: ownership transferredentry with today's date.
Common traps
- Assuming the outgoing owner keeps billing access. They do not. If you still need it, ask the new owner to make you a billing admin.
- Transferring to somebody who has not signed in yet. The transfer requires an active member.
- Trying to remove the old owner first. That is refused. Transfer, then change their role or remove them.
- Leaving the company with an owner who has left the organization. If nobody can sign in as the owner, the transfer cannot be made from inside the console and you will need Roadmap Flow support — quote the organization ID from Company settings.
